Three things cannot be long hidden: The sun, the moon, and the Truth.
What is Spiritualism?
Spiritualism is the Science, Philosophy and Religion of continuous life. It is based upon the demonstrated phenomena of communication with those in spirit. The Spiritualist church does not impose dogma nor creed on its members,. It is one of the few religions that is willing to ask questions and encourages others to do the same. The concept of Natural Law is central to Spiritualism. Natural laws are simple statements of the orderly working of the universe and all that is in it. They represent the constant outward expression of what we can expect to happen in any given situation.
Spiritualism is not "just' a religion; it is a philosophy, a science and a way of life. Spiritualism is not Christianity-based, but many Spiritualists are Christians. It does not require anyone to change their view of God and has been called a "religion of conviction not conversion".
Spiritualists believe that each and every person is responsible for his or her own happiness while on Earth. We all create our own experience. Therefore, if you live by the adage: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, you can expect either happiness or unhappiness, depending on how you live your life, how you take care of yourself; and and how you treat others.
The belief that we are all Spirit and that Spirit is God is central to Spiritualism. Spiritualists don’t believe that members must be “saved” and Spiritualists don't go out trying to “save” anyone. The Spiritualist viewpoint is about saving oneself and the belief that we are all responsible for our own salvation, happiness and unhappiness.
Do Spiritualists believe in God?
Absolutely! In fact, the first principle of Spiritualism states: “We believe in Infinite Intelligence.” Spiritualists believe that the very essence of life, all intelligence and the life force within all living beings is God. Spiritualist literature commonly refers to God as: Infinite Intelligence, the God of Your Understanding, the Divine, the Universal Mind, Divine Wisdom or the Cosmic Consciousness.
Do Spiritualists accept the teachings of Jesus?
Yes. A belief in spirit communication does not conflict with the Teachings ascribed to Jesus. The Christian Bible confirms its truth repeatedly. However, Spiritualism is not a branch of Christianity or other major religion. Spiritualism has been recognized by the US Congress as a separate and distinct religion.
How do Spiritualists communicate with those in spirit?
Spiritualists receive messages from those in Spirit via a medium. Those who have developed their own mediumship often communicate with those in Spirit directly.
What is a medium?
A medium is a person who is able to sense the presence of a nonphysical entity, either through the physical senses or by way of thoughts and impressions conveyed by the entity. A medium is the message-bearer, or channel, for the spirits. around you. Those in Spirit communicate their love for you and their willingness to help you progress spiritually.
Is mediumship a gift?
Mediumship is a trait we're all born with. And since we all come from Spirit, mediumship is indeed a very special gift! However, as we leave childhood and grow into adults, we are conditioned to set aside that which cannot be seen by others, or measured scientifically. Children have forever been taught that what can't be sensed by other people just doesn't exist. We then lose that special connection to our gifts and ground ourselves to the physical world.
Mediumship is taught as an ability that can be developed and practiced. Just as an average person can train to be a musician, anyone dedicated to their own learning can develop their mediumship abilities. Regardless of your belief in the strength of your own gifts, mediumship has been taught successfully to sincere students throughout the ages.
Spiritualists view mediumship as a way of enhancing one's relationship with Spirit and self. This is one reason why development circles and classes are such integral components of most Spiritualist churches.
Is mediumship a new phenomena?
The art of mediumship has been practiced for as long as humans have walked the Earth. However, the knowledge and development of mediumship has long been discouraged by formal religions. In the past few years there has been a resurgent interest in mediumship as people the world over seek divine guidance that is often received through mediumship. What are spirits and spirit guides?
They are people who have passed over (died) and are now living in the spirit world. They are commonly loved ones or relatives, but they may be your guides and teachers. Guides and teachers are either non-human entities of the etheric realm, or people now in Spirit. Their goal is to provide guidance and to help you learn your life lessons. Because no one is spiritually perfect, we are all on Earth to learn. Your guides and teachers are here to help you.
What is Spiritual Healing?
Spiritual healing is a form of both mental and physical mediumship. The healer has the ability to raise his or her vibration and allow spiritual healing energy to come through. This energy can have positive mental and/or physical effects and can reduce pain and suffering, lessen or eliminate symptoms, and promote quicker recovery. The positive healing energy that comes from Spirit through the healer is very powerful and can cure ailments and diseases, oftentimes after medical science has given up and the patient comes to the spiritual healer as "a last resort".
Spiritual healing is NEVER intended to replace medical care from licensed medical practitioners Always seek medical care when needed!
But how does this work?
Positive energy is freely available to everyone. Because all thoughts and feelings are energy, this positive energy can be focused, producing positive, healing results. The spirit healers come through via the medium who is the conduit for the energy to pass through. The healer will work on the areas that need it according to Spirit's directions. Healing can also take place without the person who needs it being physically present. This is called absent healing.
Do Spiritualists believe in reincarnation?
The theory of reincarnation is a belief that people are reborn to earth in different bodies and at different times. We believe that the soul of Man continues to evolve after death, but not necessarily on the earth plane. The evolution of the soul occurs in different states or dimensions of existence. While traditional Spiritualists generally reject reincarnation theory, there are others who are receptive to its possibilities.
If Spiritualism is a religion, how can it also be a science?
Spiritualism is a religion, but it is also the Philosophy and Science of continuous life beyond the death of the physical body. By diligently and scientifically researching Spirit phenomena, the data received often verifies the existence of Spirit. The same careful research also exposes hoaxes and frauds.
The National Spiritualist Association of Churches (NSAC) maintains a department devoted to the scientific study of the survival of the human personality after physical death as demonstrated through the physical and spiritual senses. Called the Department of Phenomenal Evidence, it is concerned with the collection of observations and facts, regarding spiritual communication. It actively collects data and reviews evidence of phenomena outside the scope of mainstream science. Examples include: automatic and independent writing, apports, healing, voice materialization, psychometry and clairvoyance.
There is much to learn about the spirit world and spiritual phenomena. Spiritualists are willing to accept new facts and new truths as they come up, even if they refute present thinking and ideas.
